Interim management
Sometimes I work as consultant, sometimes I deliver projects as an interim manager.
The difference between the Interim Manager (IM) and Consultant is that IM manages the change or department from within your company, where he/she stays for certain period of time - usually 3-6 months, while Consultant advises from outside.
When to typically call for the Interim Manager?
- Restructuring and other significant changes
- Temporary replacement of key leader (egg. due to maternity)
If you decide to go with IM, I personally believe it is essential the IM is a part of the company’s executive management team due to fast access to key information, better understanding of reasons and consequences. In this scenario, the IM directly faces the decision makers. Changes have then tendency to happen faster and in closer alignment with the other parts of the company.
References – you will be asked by IM for references at the end of his/her assignment. These references should confirm that the mission was successful and all agreed goals were delivered. Successful references typically serve as an “entrance ticket” to the future interim projects.
Please contact me if you would like to see my reference.
